Let’s go! Bandai Namco has released Tales of Eternia Remastered, a souped-up take on the 2001 action RPG that originally came out in North America as Tales of Destiny II. It’s out now on Switch 2, Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.

What’s new

The big trick is switching at any time between remastered and original graphics and sound effects. There’s also a progression adjustment (tweak the experience you earn and how often enemies show up), toggleable destination icons, a high-speed mode for auto battles, battle retries and quick recovery.

For players who like pain, Extreme difficulty is available from the start, and a new Unknown difficulty unlocks after you finish the adventure.

The story

Reid Hershel and his crew, Farah, Keele and the mysterious Meredy, travel Eternia, a world where two realities sit on opposite sides of the sky. Their job is to stop the two worlds from colliding by seeking the power of the Greater Craymels and the elemental spirits.

Our take

A Tales classic coming back with a way to speed up the grind? That’s respect for the player’s time. And old fans can flip on the original look for a hit of nostalgia.
