SEGA has revealed the Year Two roadmap for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, starting on November 3 with a 1v1 duel mode, free characters such as Bayonetta and a new season pass featuring Godzilla, Evangelion, Hello Kitty, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Persona. The news came during the finals of the game’s first World Championship in New York.
Mexico’s Exponso is the first world champion
More than 40,000 players took part in the online qualifiers, and the top 24 traveled to New York. After four hours of racing, Exponso from Mexico was crowned world champion.
Duel Mode and free updates
The headline of the November 3 update is Duel Mode, where you race a single opponent. A Duel Boost meter fills over time and as you use items, and you can see your rival’s items and position, which makes each race more tactical. The mode includes offline races against CPU rivals (with a special vehicle as a reward), open online matches, a ranked best-of-10 event and custom races with friends.
The update also adds the Grand Master Plate, with a boosted seventh gadget slot, 15 new gadgets, and DLC characters as CPU opponents. Year Two’s free characters start with Bayonetta (November 3), followed by a McLaren vehicle driven by Sonic (late November) and Aigis from Persona 3 (early 2027), each with a 10-day themed festival.
Season Pass Two
The new pass, on sale now, includes six packs:
- Godzilla (November 3): a track plus Godzilla, King Ghidorah and Mothra vehicles;
- Evangelion (January 27): the Tokyo-III track, Rei and Asuka as racers and three EVAs;
- Virtual Sanrio Puroland (Q2 2027): Hello Kitty and Kuromi;
- SEGALAND (Q3 2027): After Burner, OutRun and Super Megalo vehicles;
- Midgar from Final Fantasy VII Remake (Q3 2027);
- Persona (Q4 2027).
Owners of both season passes get Super Shadow on November 3. SEGA has also permanently cut the price of the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions and released a Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition (game plus the new pass) for newcomers.
