Marooners is a party mini-game based game, against 5 human opponents or bots, in a series of events.

The game has no story. After all, there’d be no reason for one: right off the bat you choose your doll from a variety of unique characters, each with their own unique personality. They are quite fun and each has specific weapons: from a viking who fights with a fish in his hand to a girl dressed as a pirate who uses a trident to attack, but this is just for variety, with no impact on gameplay. As you play and level up, you will unlock more cosmetic items and new characters. In addition, you can choose which weapon your character can use, such as a shovel or a chicken drumstick.

GAMEPLAY

All the mini-games have simple commands: move, jump and attack, and that is the most you will do. There are two mini-game modes, the “Chaos Mode”: in which you are running downhill, dodging obstacles and suddenly the game throws you into another mini-game; one in which you have to dodge falling rocks and play at the same time; a sort of “Bomberman”. However, there are more than 6 randomized mini-games, so you sometimes get confused about where you left off, or it takes a while to find your character amid the mess, which gets in the way at times. The mini-game leaves the randomness after someone’s victory. It returns exactly where the characters were left, as if you paused, went to play another mini-game and came back (this mode is the most fun).
In the other mode, the more conventional one, the mini-game ends and moves on to the next. Whoever gets the most points and jewels in the wins takes it. This makes the game quite simple.
The most interesting thing about the game is that it has local multiplayer of a maximum of 6 players, or 6 online, in a total of up to 10 selected mini-games (out of 30 available in Marooners).

When a player dies, they can come back as a ghost. Ghosts cannot win the mini-games or score points, but they can still attack other players and make them lose the game or lose points, and that is quite annoying at times. Most of the mini-games break down to “don’t get crushed” or “don’t fall”, which results in repetitive gameplay.

The game’s online works very well, always finding matches quickly, with crowded servers.

GRAPHICS

Graphically we can’t ask for anything from Marooners, a very simple mini-game title. The graphics are very colorful with very vibrant colors; something acceptable for the game’s proposal. However, it could have had something more elaborate in the construction of the maps and some characters. The game’s music is simple, and conveys an agitated rhythm. We can’t expect something grand for this type of game nowadays, given that this is not the game’s proposal.

CONCLUSION

Marooners is fun in the short term. Maybe for one evening, gathered with your friends, drinking and eating junk food. Its replay value is quite weak: after about two hours of play, you have practically played every mini-game dozens of times. It’s one of those games that is more fun with friends physically present than online.
