This year is a World Cup year: the biggest sporting event in the world. And of course FIFA 18 won’t be left out.
As usual, EA releases a special World Cup FIFA every World Cup year. Like FIFA 2010 and FIFA 2014, both released as standalone games, with national teams only. And this year will be no different.
In an interview with Spanish radio COPE, Daniel Montes, head of public relations and marketing at EA, was present. He let slip that FIFA 2018 Russia World Cup could be released as soon as February or March. In addition he got into an awkward spot: a voice can be heard in the background, via cell phone, telling him not to speak. Apparently getting a talking-to from EA’s bosses.
The game probably won’t be free, just as the previous ones weren’t, but it might come via DLC. Something that, if it were free, would be great for the brand. The FIFA World Cup is practically a new game, with online and offline modes, the World Cup, other tournaments, and even options for a mode to reward you in Ultimate Team.
He also gave to understand that this FIFA World Cup will only be for XBOX ONE / PS4 / PC.
It’s worth remembering that FIFA 18 is the last appearance of commentators Tiago Leifert and Caio Ribeiro.
