Bethesda says Fallout 76 servers will stay up “forever”

Bethesda’s marketing vice president told GameSpot that Fallout 76 servers will stay active “forever,” as long as people keep playing the game.

Fallout 76 is the newest game in the acclaimed Fallout series; in this game the world is shared with other players, similar to what happens in Bungie’s Destiny. Recently, in a conversation with GameSpot, Bethesda’s vice president of marketing stated that Fallout 76’s servers will stay active “forever,” saying:

“How long will Fallout 76 last? Forever. I don’t know how to give a different answer to that. It’s not like someone makes a game and says, ‘Well, this will last 10 years if we’re lucky.’ Nobody thinks like that. How long has WoW been running?”

“We’re going to keep going as long as people keep playing and that shows no signs of slowing down. When we get to private servers or whatever happens in the years that follow; I don’t know. Maybe there’s a point where it doesn’t matter. But… this is a massive franchise and a giant undertaking, and our commitment to it is that it’s never-ending and continues on an ongoing basis.”

“I see a plan for this game for years and years and years. So talking about when it’s not running is kind of irrelevant.”

Fallout 76 launches on November 14 for PC, Xbox and PS4.
