Bethesda, the company behind Fallout 76, confirmed after being called out on the popular Reddit forum that the beta version of the game could be hacked. According to the Reddit user teetharejustdone (who posted a very long list of potential problems), players could, through the vulnerabilities found, view other users’ in-game stats and their IP addresses. Game modifications that can provide extra advantages over other players can already be found on Nexus Mods. Bethesda gave a statement about the matter to Eurogamer, check it out:
“Many of the claims in the thread are inaccurate or based on incorrect assumptions. The community, however, has brought attention to several issues that our teams are already actively tracking and plan to implement fixes for.”
“Our goal is always to provide a great experience for all of our players. Cheating or hacking will not be tolerated. We know our fan base is passionate about modifying and customizing their experience in our worlds, and that is something we intend to support in the future.”
The company did not say which issues are actually valid, but modders have already said they were able to easily alter the game’s files and that the core of the game was practically identical to Fallout 4. It was also discovered that it is possible to create hacks that increase the game’s speed, changing just a few lines of code to disable VSync and “unlock” the frame rate, letting players gain mobility advantages.
Fallout 76 launches on November 14, and we hope Bethesda has fixed this by then!
