Nintendo announced on its official website the end of the Creators Program; the company’s official note says Nintendo wants to “make it easier for content creators to make and monetize videos that contain Nintendo game content”. Content creators who want to make videos with Nintendo products no longer need to submit the content to the program, but they must follow the guidelines imposed by the company.
One of these guidelines says videos must have their own commentary, meaning simply recording the game is not allowed. It is also worth noting that Nintendo will only allow the monetization methods it approves, such as the YouTube Partner Program and the Twitch affiliate program.
The Creators Program was born in 2015, in response to the harsh criticism the company had been getting for claiming the money YouTubers received from ads on YouTube. Those who were not part of the program constantly had their videos taken down by the company, and those who joined the program had their profits greatly reduced because 40% went to Google and the other 60% of the revenue had to be split between the creator and Nintendo.
