Anthem’s lead producer explains why they made it an online game

Ben Irving, Anthem’s lead producer, explains why BioWare chose an online game, drawing on the studio’s multiplayer experience from earlier titles.

According to Anthem’s lead producer, Ben Irving, Anthem is a compilation of BioWare’s experiences with multiplayer games. Ben also mentioned that multiplayer has always been a present and important part of several BioWare games. He said:

“If you look at BioWare’s history you will find that we have always wanted to experiment with online. In Neverwinter Nights there was a multiplayer mode, in the Mass Effect franchise there is a multiplayer mode. Dragon Age has a multiplayer mode, Star Wars: The Old Republic has a huge multiplayer mode. Even in those gigantic single-player campaigns there was a desire to connect them with multiplayer and with a great story.”

“We have made great progress since Star Wars: The Old Republic, but Anthem is the sum of those attempts, as an aggregate, in a way that works well, with a great story, in an interesting and dangerous world, but with the fun gameplay, progression and loot you expect from a multiplayer game”

Anthem will be released on February 22, its VIP demo will be available on Friday the 25th and will last until the 27th, and to access this demo you need to pre-order the game.
