Amy Hennig is one of the creators of the Uncharted series; in a recent interview with VentureBeat, she talked a bit about one of the industry’s most recent controversies, the controversial “death” of single-player-focused games. Amy said that today, without a shadow of a doubt, no publisher would approve a project like Uncharted, but she also said that single-player will not die but rather evolve to adapt. Amy said:
“Look at current releases. It is an increasingly difficult proposition. Now, you need many hours of gameplay. Eight would not do. Traditionally, an online mode. Of course, you can see where things are heading, toward live services and battle royale and games as services.”
“All those things – I do not know the right term, but they fit less with a story. They are less compatible with a traditional narrative. One that has a shape and an arc and a destination, an ending. A game that is a live service, that goes on, does not have one.”
And do you agree with her?
