Anthem is BioWare’s big bet after the Mass Effect trilogy; according to the game’s producer Michael Gamble, the game was already in development even before the launch of Destiny 1, so we conclude that development began before September 2014, Destiny 1’s release date. That gave the game more than 4 years of development… time that apparently was not enough, given the very significant number of problems the game currently faces.
BioWare has been releasing frequent updates in the hope of fixing these flaws, but it seems that haste has been the enemy of perfection… Anthem’s most recent update adjusted the high-level loot system (item drops after an activity or confrontation), but forgot to increase the chance of players above level 30 receiving better loot, meaning level 30 players will have difficulty getting the game’s “maximum” gear, the Masterworks.
I hardly need to say that this greatly displeased the Anthem community, which is even planning a boycott of the game. The boycott will work as follows: players who join it must stop playing the game between March 11 and 15, with the aim of making BioWare realize that the community is not happy at all with the game. Below is the “call to action” made on Reddit:
“Are you unhappy? Want to show your position once and for all? Well, what could destabilize a game that has real-money transactions for cosmetic items (yes, I know, there is hardly anything) or that is a live service more than anything else?”
“Show your opinion, yes, it is that simple. Stop playing the game for an entire week (with the help of the whole subreddit, I hope) to show BioWare that all we need to seriously enjoy the game is to receive loot.”
“The time invested vs. reward is a complete insult at the moment,”
The thread currently has more than 12,500 upvotes… BioWare has not commented on the matter.
