Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo under investigation in the United Kingdom

The UK’s CMA is investigating Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft over auto-renewal terms and refund policies for their consoles’ online services.

The CMA (Competition and Markets Authority), which is responsible for regulating the market and its competition rules, said it is investigating the online services provided by Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft on their respective consoles. The CMA suspects that the automatic renewal terms of these services are harming customers, and it is also looking into pre-order refund and cancellation policies.

“Our investigation will try to find out whether the biggest online gaming companies are being fair to their customers when they automatically renew their contracts and whether people can easily cancel them or get their money back,”
