Windows 10 Game Bar gets new features: capture, edit, share and use Spotify without leaving the game

Microsoft adds Spotify control, CPU/GPU monitoring, capture and editing, and friends chat to the Windows 10 Game Bar for Xbox Insiders.

At X018 (Microsoft’s event focused on games and its platforms), Microsoft committed to making gaming on Windows better and more intuitive. Microsoft began gathering suggestions and new ideas to make the improvements, and thanks to that the result can finally be seen (for now only by users enrolled in the company’s “insiders” program). Among these new features, we can highlight the ability to use Spotify straight from the Game Bar with full, quick and dynamic control of the app, chat with friends to share your gaming moments, and customize the user interface layout to one of your choice… below is a summary of the main functions and how they work:

Spotify

You can now control the app through the Game Bar, including playing, pausing, skipping, changing the current playback device, selecting the playlists recommended by the app and adjusting the volume. All of this is possible without leaving the game!

CPU and GPU monitoring

It is now also possible to monitor CPU, GPU and RAM usage straight from the Windows 10 Game Bar. The stats appear in a widget that you choose where to pin on the screen.

Gallery and Memes

It is already possible today to capture and view your game screenshots and share them directly to Twitter, without leaving the game. After the new update it will be possible to take a screenshot or video and make a quick edit directly in the Game Bar, then easily share your creations via Twitter.

Friends, Chat and Mixer

Now, similar to what happens on Xbox One, you will be able to see what your friends are playing, send them text messages, start a voice chat or even watch their stream straight from the Game Bar.

Customizable Interface

After the new update, you will be able to customize the Game Bar to make it more personal. You will be able to choose which widgets to show or hide, where you want them to appear and even pin them.

How to get access to the BETA version of the Game Bar?

  • Launch the Xbox Insider Hub on your Windows 10 PC (the app is available in the Windows store).
  • Select Insider Content in the upper left corner
  • Select Windows Gaming; users on build # 17763 or higher will be enrolled automatically.
  • Press Win+G (or the button with the Xbox symbol if you are using an Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller) in any game to open the Game Bar and enjoy!
