For those who do not know it, PlayStation Now is the name of Sony’s game streaming service, which lets you play PSX, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games on a PlayStation 4 itself or on a PC. Eurogamer tested the service and had a “mixed” experience. According to the writer, playing over Wi-Fi, he tested Metal Gear V and God of War 3 and, in his words, both were a terrible experience. In Metal Gear V the sound and picture cut out at several moments, the game itself looked like a slideshow given how slowly it responded to commands, and to top it off the image became pixelated and of poor quality… in God of War 3 he could not even play the game and finally received a message from the service itself saying “The quality of your Internet connection is not sufficient for PS Now. The PS Now game will be closed.”
The journalist concluded that anyone using the service over Wi-Fi will have serious problems with instability and smoothness… but he did not give up and ran the tests again, this time with the console connected to the internet by Ethernet cable, and according to him the experience changed “like night and day”. Metal Gear V ran as it should, with gorgeous graphics and none of the earlier problems. To remove any doubt he tested a series of other games (Until Dawn, Bloodborne and Uncharted 2), which ran without any problems and smoothly. In other words, playing over Wi-Fi makes the experience terrible, and the service only worked well over an Ethernet cable.
