As already reported here, Epic Games has taken a quite hostile position in the market for stores that sell digital games; the company declared war on Steam and its pricing policy toward developers. Epic offers developers 88% of the revenue from sales of their games and has also made several deals to obtain game exclusives, such as the recent ones with Metro Exodus and Borderlands 3. All of this to boost its store and “protest” against Steam.
Today Epic showed once again that it is not joking: the company acquired Psyonix, the company responsible for Rocket League, and as a result the game will stop being sold on Steam (but support for those who have already bought the game on Steam will remain the same, that is, those who bought the game on Steam can count on DLCs and everything released for the game). Rocket League has sold more than 10.5 million copies and is a very well-rated game among users. The purchase will be completed in June of this year.
