[Gears 5] New multiplayer details released + dedicated servers running at 60Hz

Gears 5 releases new multiplayer details and confirms dedicated servers running at 60 Hz during the closed beta tests, with no Season Pass.

Gears 5 launches on September 10 and multiplayer tests (Beta) are already happening. For now the tests are closed, meaning only a lucky few can play it… fortunately soon enough users who pre-ordered or who are Game Pass subscribers will be able to play it too! The first beta test will take place from July 19 to 22 (pre-download available on the 17th) starting at 2 pm Brasília time; the second test will take place from July 27 to 29.

In a celebratory mood for the upcoming launch, The Coalition, the developer in charge of the series, also released some important details about server balancing and game modes. Here is what was said:

  • 60Hz servers (the rate at which the server is updated every second)
  • There will be no Season Pass and no Gear Packs
  • Maps will be free (Matchmaking and Private)
  • Recoil-based gunfights, Hitmaker (a visual cue that an attack damaged an enemy), Kill Cams
  • Weapons will have universal balance that works across all modes (there will be no difference in weapon damage and behavior regardless of the mode played)
  • Direct purchases
