The developers of PUBG, the game famous for popularizing the battle royale style, announced that update 9.1 (coming out October 29) will add a “Framerate priority” mode. This mode will prioritize 60FPS and will only work on enhanced consoles (PlayStation 4 PRO and Xbox One X) and next-generation consoles. The developers’ message on the game’s blog says:
“After rigorous testing, we are happy to say that the game’s performance is extremely smooth and stable, with faster loading and few or no frame drops thanks to the power of next-gen”.
It’s worth noting that PUBG will run on the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X through backward compatibility, without a version made (entirely) with the new generation in mind. That’s why the Xbox Series S version, which uses the Xbox One S version as a base, will run at 30FPS and will not have this option enabled. According to the game’s developers, they are working to bring these improvements to the base versions of the consoles as well.
“We are working to provide an option to raise the framerate limit on Xbox One S and Xbox Series S consoles in the future”
