After playing Elden Ring, Phil Spencer calls it Miyazaki’s most ambitious game

Phil Spencer told GameSpot he has played part of Elden Ring and called it the most ambitious game Hidetaka Miyazaki has made, with George R. R. Martin on story.

Miyazaki has gone down in gaming history: his Souls games became practically a genre of their own, affectionately nicknamed “Soulslike”. His next game, Elden Ring (a project in which Game of Thrones writer and creator George R. R. Martin is also involved), got a short teaser and since then we’ve been left in the dark… nothing else (relevant) was said. At least not until now…

In an interview with GameSpot, Phil Spencer revealed he has played the game, even if only a little. Phil couldn’t say much about it, but his brief description was enough to raise the hype among Miyazaki fans. He said:

“As someone who has played all of Miyazaki’s games of the last decade, this is clearly the most ambitious game he has ever made. I love his games, but seeing some of the gameplay mechanics he is tackling, that he and his team are tackling this time, the setting, working with another creator in terms of story. I love that.”

“He is so passionate about what he does. It’s one of the things I love about starting to work with him on some of these games and seeing them come to our platform.”

Elden Ring was announced in 2019 at the Xbox conference and is slated for release on PC and Xbox One (it will probably also come to the new generation).
