Uri Geller regrets stopping Nintendo from using Pokémon Kadabra in trading cards

Uri Geller regrets blocking Nintendo from using the Pokémon Kadabra in its trading cards and lifts the ban after 20 years of dispute.

Uri Geller was a famous “paranormal” who had considerable success in the 1970s; one of his trademarks was bending a spoon, supposedly using the “power of the mind”. Needless to say, he was debunked several times and many of his tricks were replicated, showing it was all tricks and illusionism.

There is a Pokémon called “Yungerer” or “Yungeller” (Kadabra), which clearly looks like a tribute/reference to Uri Geller, and not only in the name… the Pokémon in question is a Psychic type and always carries a spoon in its hand. Unfortunately, Uri Geller did not like the tribute and ended up taking Nintendo to court, claiming the company created this Pokémon based on him without his authorization and that the Pokémon in question “was evil and occult” . The lawsuit dragged on for years and, in the year 2000, Nintendo chose to remove the Pokémon’s card from the games.

Years went by, decades in fact, and according to Uri Geller he still receives emails and letters today asking him to allow Nintendo to use the Pokémon in the cards… today he says he regrets having taken the company to court. He said:

“I am sorry for what I did 20 years ago. Kids and adults, I am lifting the ban. Now it is up to Nintendo to bring my Pokémon Kadabra card back. It will probably be one of the rarest cards now! Lots of energy and love to all!”

“Due to the huge volume of emails still begging me to allow Nintendo to bring back Kadabra/Yungeller, I sent […] a letter to the president of Nintendo giving them permission to re-release the Uri Geller Kadabra/Yungeller worldwide.”

Now all that is left is to wait and pray for Nintendo to bring the Pokémon back… and you, do you miss Kadabra and its evolution?
