It is no secret to anyone that Microsoft has been greatly expanding its business in the gaming world; its latest acquisitions speak for themselves. Phil Spencer, the top head of the Xbox division, had already said that Microsoft had not yet acquired all the companies it wanted, and on that occasion he mentioned he was looking for more companies to build up its portfolio.
It seems he was not joking: the Redmond giant’s newest acquisition is Smash.gg, a company specialized in creating and organizing events for esports tournaments. In a statement on its website, the company said:
“Since we started in 2015, our goal has been to build active esports scenes around the games people love to play. Today we are excited to take the next step in that journey, joining Microsoft to help strengthen our existing relationships and explore new opportunities. Smash.gg will continue as a self-service esports platform available to tournament organizers from all gaming communities. If you have any questions about existing tournaments.“
