Sony starts temporarily banning PS4 users without a PS5 who redeemed PS Plus Collection games

Sony is reportedly banning PS4 users without a PS5 who had PS Plus Collection games redeemed for them: temporary bans for PS4, permanent for PS5 owners.

Sony started a wave of bans this week… the targets? At first they were PlayStation 5 users who redeemed the games from the PlayStation Plus instant game collection on the accounts of several people who do not own a PlayStation 5, but it seems Sony did not stop there… several reports have appeared on gaming forums across the internet claiming that even PlayStation 4 users (who asked someone with a PlayStation 5 to redeem the games for them) are being banned. However, most PS4 owners received a temporary ban, unlike PS5 owners, who received a permanent ban.

So far Sony has not issued a statement to the press explaining the criteria used to ban users, although the “modus operandi” is easy to see, since only PlayStation 5 owners who redeemed the games for PlayStation 4 owners and the PlayStation 4 owners who received the games themselves were graced with the “gift”.
