Nioh director says the series will “rest” before returning to consoles

Nioh director Fumihiko Yasuda says the Team Ninja series will rest after Nioh 2, as the studio shifts to new projects starting in 2021.

The Souls series of games practically created a style of its own, called “Souls-like” (games that share elements of the Souls saga). One of the most successful games in this style was the Nioh saga, created by Team Ninja (creators of the Ninja Gaiden series). After 2 games released, Team Ninja told Famitsu magazine (in an interview) that the saga would “rest”, signaling that they would not release more games in the saga anytime soon. The saga’s director, Fumihiko Yasuda, said:

“At Team Ninja, the seven-year development of the Nioh series will reach a resting point, and there are several projects that will begin full-scale development in 2021. I intend to change my development style to match my changing lifestyle and focus on new titles. As for me personally, I will try not to gain any more weight.”

And you, will you miss a new game from the franchise?
