Console sales have been doing super well around the world… I would venture to say that if it were not for the raw material shortage caused by the pandemic, sales would have broken historic records. NPD Group revealed important information about console sales in June in the United States: the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console, while the Xbox Series S|X was the console that generated the most revenue. The PS5 came in third, but is still the best-selling current-generation console in the United States so far (if we count the Nintendo Switch as a current-generation console, it becomes the best-selling console of 2021).
“June dollar sales of Xbox consoles set a new record for the Xbox platform, surpassing the previous record set in June 2011”
The sales increase of the Xbox Series S|X comes in response to Microsoft’s successful E3, which managed to put on an event with plenty of content that drew attention to its platform.
“June dollar sales of video game hardware grew 112% compared to June 2020, reaching US$ 401 million. This is the highest June percentage since 2008, with US$ 617 million.
Impressive numbers, especially considering that both the Xbox Series X and PS5 still suffer greatly from a lack of stock.
