Sumo Digital, the company responsible for developing Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Crackdown 3, is about to be bought by Tencent. If completed, the purchase will raise the value of the company’s shares (for shareholders) by up to 43%, and the purchase price is estimated at around 1.27 billion dollars. Tencent already owned 8.75% of the company. Sumo Digital’s leaders were very pleased with the acquisition, saying:

“The opportunity to work with Tencent is one we simply could not miss. It would bring another dimension to Sumo, presenting opportunities for us to truly make our mark on this incredible industry, in ways that were previously out of reach. Tencent has a strong track record of supporting management teams and existing strategies.”

“Alongside accelerating our own IP work, Tencent has demonstrated its commitment to supporting our client work and has stated its intention to ensure we have the investment needed to continue focusing on working with our key strategic partners on turn-key and co-development projects.”

Sumo Digital also helped develop games such as Forza Horizon 2, LittleBigPlanet 3, Disney Infinity and Team Sonic Racing.
