Sifu mobile is official: Sloclap has announced that the acclaimed kung fu beat ‘em up comes to Android and iOS on October 12. It is the first time the game, considered one of the best of 2022, gets a mobile version – and the promise is to keep the same intense, challenging experience of the console and PC versions.

Pre-orders are already open on the App Store and Google Play. Below, see what changes in the adaptation for touch screens.

What changes in Sifu mobile

According to Sloclap, the version was designed for people who play on the go, but without simplifying the depth of the combat. The main adaptations are:

  • Contextual combat interactions: attacks using the environment, grabbing weapons, takedowns and movement through the environment are now done with contextual buttons. Dialogue choices, focus attacks and takedowns were integrated directly into the gameplay.
  • Adaptive camera: the camera behavior was adjusted to improve navigation, combat readability and comfort on smaller screens.
  • Touch-focused controls: the control scheme was tailor-made for phones, preserving combos, defenses, focus attacks and advanced techniques.
  • Visuals faithful to the original: the painting-like art direction and cinematic presentation were kept.

Sifu mobile keeps the essence of kung fu

For those who don’t know it yet, Sifu is set in a fictional Chinese city and follows a young martial arts student who witnesses his father’s murder. After eight years of training, he sets off on a journey of revenge, mastering Pak Mei kung fu and studying the weaknesses of powerful enemies.

The game blends two genres – roguelike and beat ‘em up – and is known for its difficulty and its emphasis on learning from mistakes. Each defeat ages the character, and the accumulated knowledge is what allows him to break the cycle of revenge. That learning curve is exactly what the mobile version promises to preserve.

Who is Sloclap

Based in Paris, Sloclap is an independent studio with more than 100 developers, responsible for Absolver and Sifu. Both games were praised by the international press and collected award nominations. The studio is currently applying its third-person action experience to a competitive online football game.
