Pit People, released on 01/13/2017 (in early access), from the same creators as Castle Crashers, is a blend of the simple, beautiful and fun. The game features local co-op for 2 players, and online. The game is turn-based strategy, yet it’s an easy gameplay to adapt to; the soundtrack and narration stand out, a strong point of this game, very well suited to it.
It all begins years after a colossal bear collided with the earth. That’s right, the game begins years after that event. A god narrates the whole story, writing our character’s story while arguing with him, which makes some conversation sequences very funny. He was bored with everything good on earth, so he decided to change it, turning it into a world where chaos reigns. The game begins with Horatio, a raspberry farmer, trying to protect his son from a thieves’ attack. At that point you take command and start your journey.
Pit People’s story stands out for its narrative and funny journey, which makes it very engaging. The soundtrack is fantastic, worthy of big games. It fits the battles and everything else in the game very well; it doesn’t let you get tired of the game’s sound while you have fun.
The gameplay is based on turn-based battles (very reminiscent of XCOM’s fight mode), but when you walk around the world looking for new areas, movement becomes free. During the game you will gather companions to help you in battles, six characters at a time in total, but you can have many in your “Inventory”, which you capture with a sort of cage in various parts of the map, always looking for better items and equipment.
It can be a simple piece of wood as a weapon, or even a submachine gun (that’s right, enemies will attack you with nice firearms, and you can use them too).
The game’s story mode isn’t complete yet (about 2 hrs available) because it’s in early access, but it has PvP, Co-op, many side quests and achievements to unlock; the game is already available for pre-purchase, on Steam and Xbox Live.
