Come with me, because this one is for those who love piloting Titans: Respawn announced the next Titanfall 2 DLC, Colony Reborn, set for release on March 30, 2017. And best of all, a real treat: it is free for all players.
The highlight is the return of Colony, a map from the first Titanfall, remade for the second game. The pack also brings a weapon, the R-101, a new execution, the Curb Check, and cosmetic items, which are sold separately. The idea of keeping maps and modes free had been there since the game’s launch, on October 28, 2016: that way, nobody is separated from the community for not having bought a pack.
To celebrate, Respawn opened a free trial period between March 30 and April 3. Those who didn’t yet have the game could try the full multiplayer and two parts of the campaign: the Training Gauntlet, the training course at the beginning, and The Beacon, one of the campaign’s most praised missions. What a sweet invitation for anyone on the fence.
And there is a kind detail: after April 3, the trial’s multiplayer was turned off, but the campaign part stayed available for free, with no end date. Anyone who liked the story could go back to it whenever they wanted and calmly decide whether to buy the full game.
What came next
Titanfall 2 kept receiving free updates throughout 2017 and became one of those games many people discover later, always with praise for its campaign. The series’ universe also got new life in 2019, when Respawn launched Apex Legends, a battle royale set in the same universe as Titanfall. My little gamer heart still hopes for a reunion with the Titans.
