Come with me, because this was good news for the curious: Bethesda announced that Dishonored 2 would get a free trial starting April 6, 2017, on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The trial unlocked the first three missions of the campaign, and you could play as either Emily or Corvo. All you had to do was download it from the PlayStation Store, the Xbox store or the game’s Steam page. And a treat for those who liked it: the full game could be bought from inside the trial itself, and all progress and saves carried over to the full version, so nobody had to start from scratch. At the time, those who upgraded from the trial also got a 50% discount.
For those who didn’t know it, Dishonored 2 is the sequel to Arkane Studios’ first-person action game, released on November 11, 2016. You take the role of an assassin with supernatural powers after Delilah Copperspoon seizes the throne and puts the fate of the Empire at stake. As Emily or Corvo, the adventure leaves the familiar streets of Dunwall and heads to Karnaca, a once-dazzling coastal city that holds the keys to returning power to Emily.
Look how cute the care put into Karnaca is: the city was inspired by Larnaca, in Cyprus, with touches of Greece, Italy and Spain, and swaps the first game’s whale oil for wind turbines and dust storms. Development was by the Arkane Lyon studio, directed by Harvey Smith.

What came next
Dishonored 2 had already been very well received: Metacritic averages of 88 on PS4 and 86 on PC, plus the award for best action/adventure game at The Game Awards 2016. The “Clockwork Mansion” and “A Crack in the Slab” missions got special praise from critics. On September 15, 2017 came Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, a standalone expansion that does not require the original game.
