The classic Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007 could get a documentary. The independently produced project is seeking funding on Indiegogo to pay for its production.
“It’s hard to believe it has been 20 years since the debut of GoldenEye 007, so we believe it’s the ideal moment to revisit it, celebrate it and tell its story”, says Naz Pattison, one of the producers of the documentary, titled GoldenEra.
GoldenEye 007 was released in 1997 on the Nintendo 64. The game was an adaptation of the film of the same name. For several experts, game designers and journalists, it is considered one of the most influential shooters in history. Among other features, it was one of the first games to offer a multiplayer mode for up to four people on the same screen.

The documentary includes interviews with several of the developers who worked on the game’s production, as well as editors from several specialized gaming outlets. However, the filmmakers want more sources “to capture more stories and create the documentary this game deserves.”
The filmmakers are looking to raise 85,000 dollars for production. So far, GoldenEra has raised just over a thousand dollars; the campaign will remain active for one more month.
In recent years, documentaries about video games have gained popularity. Besides big productions like Atari: Game Over, companies like Capcom have worked on documentaries about the legacy of Street Fighter. On the independent side, productions include works like Doom Resurrected and The Smash Brothers Documentary.
