In Zeus Quest Remastered, the great god and chief of Olympus returns to Earth in a ship built by Hephaestus to save the planet with the help of a time machine. To achieve this he must venture across the Greek islands, visiting various places and interacting with hilarious creatures, mythological or not. That is the setting we find in this simple point and click game.
The game, originally released in 2008 for Windows Mobile, got a remastered version in 2016 for the other mobile platforms and PC, and in March 2018 for PS4, and being a remaster its gameplay was ported exactly as it was on mobile, simple and clean… Without many control options, which can be a double-edged sword since a good part of today’s games bet on complex screens and commands.
Gameplay
As Zeus you must find the pieces needed to build your time machine, and for that you will have to talk to villagers, mythological beings and animals and help them according to the situation. And this ranges from “trading” stones for a mirror to even tricking a child into recovering a shield for you.
Go get the shield over there, citizen…Put that way, Zeus Quest has a cool premise, but the game is often confusing, not directing you on what to do, leaving it up to you to test every possible alternative – who would imagine you will need a scarf to catch a pigeon, but for that you must talk to the same NPC more than 3 times for her to give up and hand over this item, which must be combined with a twig.
There is the possibility of asking for hints on what to do, but this costs points that are only received by completing some activity, which over time can get harder and harder.
The lack of localized subtitles – something already expected for a game ported from mobile – makes the adventure even harder, often leaving the player having to repeat the dialogue to see if they missed something along the way.
Graphics
The game has changed practically nothing from the 2008 version, with only its animations and graphics improved to Full HD, dialogue added in cut-scenes, animations on the NPCs and the addition of music (very little, by the way).
Graphical difference between the Mobile and PS4 versionsThe design of all the characters – except Zeus, the main one – follows the same pattern as the art of the time, with little detail in the anatomy. In Zeus’s case, he has somewhat better animation, but even so it is simple, without much fluidity.
Verdict
With all these points, Zeus Quest Remastered can be rated as a cool game to play on a phone, its original platform, or if it comes free on Plus… It is not worth the R$ 27.90 currently charged on the PSN. The difficulty is relatively high, the length short (to get the platinum it takes on average an hour and a half if the player knows the solution to all the puzzles) and, being a point and click, over time the game becomes boring since you must go back and forth many times to the same point on the map.
Gameplay – 5
Graphics – 4.5
Fun – 6
Final score – 5.2
