New cooling revision of the PlayStation 4 Pro makes the console quieter, but slightly hotter

Digital Foundry tested the new PS4 Pro CUH-7200 revision and found it quieter than the launch model, with the same 170W power draw but slightly higher heat.

The PlayStation 4 Pro was released in 2016 and since launch the main complaint has been the noise it made when running more graphically demanding games. After several revisions, it seems Sony has finally managed to make its console quieter. The new CUH-7200 series is already starting to be sold in the United Kingdom, and Digital Foundry ran tests on the new revision of the console and noticed that although power consumption (170W) remains the same, the model is quieter, though it is not the “coolest” model (that title still belongs to the launch PS4 Pro model, CUH-7000). Below is a comparison table made by the DF team:

DF concludes: “The abrupt, sudden changes in fan noise are no longer a problem and, similar to the CUH-7100, the high-pitched, irritating sound of the CUH-7000’s cooling system is gone. In the living room, during normal play, all you really detect is a constant ‘hum’.” Below you can watch the full analysis of the console:
