Come along, because this update made everything prettier: in December 2018, Turn 10 Studios, the team behind the Forza series, released an update for Forza Motorsport 7 that redesigned the game’s interface and menus. The idea was to make navigation more elegant and more practical.
And it wasn’t just makeup, you know? The package also brought the #1 BMW M Motorsport M8 GTE car, gameplay tweaks, new events and force feedback improvements for those playing with a compatible wheel. Check out the video showing the new features:
A bit of context
Forza Motorsport 7 came out on October 3, 2017 for Xbox One and Windows 10, with more than 700 cars, more than 200 track configurations and 32 locations at launch. On the Xbox One X it ran at 4K and 60 frames per second, and on regular Xbox One consoles at 1080p with the same frame rate. What a nice technical showcase for Microsoft’s most powerful console at the time.
Reception was good, with scores of 86 on Xbox One and 82 on PC on Metacritic, and the game won several racing awards between 2017 and 2018. But not everything was sweet: part of the critics complained about changes to the game’s currency system, which made progression slower and more tiring. That is why updates like this helped keep the racing crowd around.
What came next
Forza Motorsport 7 had an end earlier than many expected. On September 15, 2021, the game was pulled from sale and from Xbox Game Pass due to license expiry, and stopped being offered in digital stores. The successor, simply called Forza Motorsport, arrived in 2023 as the eighth game in the main series. My little gamer heart misses that giant garage.
