Netflix has been canceling several Marvel series, and the most recent cancellation is Daredevil, which ran for 3 seasons in total. Until now the most accepted theory was that Marvel had pressured Netflix in some way to cancel these series. However, in a phone interview with Inverse, actress Amy Rutberg (who plays Marci Stahl in Daredevil) said the news of the cancellation came as a total surprise to Marvel’s bosses, and that the blame for the cancellation lies entirely with Netflix. Rutberg said:
“My contacts at Marvel were very surprised. The rumors saying this was Marvel’s decision are wrong, I think it was purely Netflix’s decision. I’ve had personal conversations with people at the top of Marvel. And they were surprised by the decision.”
Rutberg is not the first person tied to the series to say this. The series’ co-executive producer, Sam Ernst, describing a lunch meeting that took place in late November, also stated that Marvel’s writers and executives did not know the series would be canceled either.
What do you think about this?
