Space-themed games always have a positive impact and tend to spark my interest, especially when they have the polish of a AAA game, even though considered an indie. That is how Everspace is presented, a game in which an amnesiac pilot fights and investigates a mysterious alien race, at the edges of the galaxy; that is how the game was conceived by Rockfish Games.

The different sectors of the galaxy are subdivided into smaller areas and make up the stages through which the player will travel, but if you die, it will be like a good space roguelike, where death is permanent and forces the player to start over; but with the relief of keeping the credits earned and being able to make upgrades and buy new equipment and abilities for your ships.

The gameplay is very well built and there is gameplay variation between the ships, in a quite noticeable way, along with the impact of environment variations on your gameplay, such as the interference of black holes on the controls and the risk they bring to the run, all very well implemented and quite organically in the game. The player can choose first- or third-person view and with the possibility.

Exploring the environments after combat is essential: searching asteroid fields for new resources, rummaging through ship wrecks, abandoned structures, all of this is part of the gameplay and lets the player freely explore the sectors. An important detail is that the damage your ship takes affects your gameplay and resources are needed for the player to make the necessary repairs.

Regarding the narrative, the game follows the simple premise of the amnesiac fugitive who is pursued throughout his journey, but the interactions your character has in the game with allies and enemies, as well as the comments your character makes about the sectors we travel through, make the journey interesting, enriching the plot and making the setting rich and full of mysteries that invite the player to explore, deserving a score of 6.0 in the narrative aspect.

Regarding gameplay, the construction of the controls was very well thought out, despite having characteristics that should work better on PC, such as control refinement, due to the limitations of console controls, still it deserves highlighting for presenting solid control, gameplay variation according to the ships and interference of the scenery on the controls, deserving a score of 7.5 in the gameplay aspect.

Regarding the technical aspect, the game deserves only praise, because although it is an indie game, it looks like a AAA game, with the visuals built with great care, as well as the sound with a well-built soundtrack and very well implemented audio effects, increasing the player’s immersion, deserving a score of 8.0 in the technical aspect.

So, if you are a fan of roguelike games and like the space theme, at a fair price, Everspace is a game to keep on your radar, with constant development work from Rockfish Games, with an expansion available and a lot of care to make the game catch the eye and be among the great options of this new crop of space games

final score: 7.3
