After rumor of the open-world Star Wars game’s cancellation, EA Games says it is fully committed to making Star Wars games

EA says it is fully committed to making Star Wars games after a rumor that its open-world Star Wars project had been canceled.

Rumors recently surfaced that the new Star Wars game, which would be open world, had been canceled by EA Games. The rumor says the game would need a lot of development time and that is why EA Games chose to scrap a game of that scale. The rumor does not arrive at a good time, since the company was heavily criticized for the abusive loot box practices that existed in the franchise’s 2 previous games.

After the negative reaction to the rumor, EA Games issued a statement to Variety reiterating its commitment to making games in the franchise. It is worth noting that the statement never denies the rumor; they only say the rumor is speculation. Below is EA Games’ statement:

“There has been speculation about one of our Star Wars projects. As a natural part of the creative process, the excellent work of our team in Vancouver continues and will evolve for future Star Wars content and games. We are fully committed to making more games in the Star Wars franchise, we are very excited about Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and we will share more about our new projects when the time is right.”
