Metro Exodus appeared for pre-order on Steam, then the game was removed from the store and we learned it would be sold exclusively on the Epic Games Store, remembering that I am referring only to the PC version. This upset fans of the franchise quite a lot, and even more those who had already pre-ordered the game before it left the Steam catalog (Steam refunded those who had pre-purchased the game). Fans of the franchise are even considering boycotting the PC version of the game… starting with Steam’s review system, where the franchise’s previous games are being bombarded with negative reviews.
After all this controversy, the game’s publisher, Deep Silver, decided to explain the situation, stressing that the game’s developers had nothing to do with the decision:
“”The recent decision to move Metro Exodus from Steam to the Epic Games Store was made solely by Koch Media / Deep Silver,””
“The comments made recently by a member of the 4A Games team do not reflect the view of 4A Games or Deep Silver on the future of the franchise. They reflect the pain and disillusionment of a passionate individual who had previously only seen goodwill toward his work turned into controversy because of a business decision over which he had no control. We respectfully ask that any and all valid feedback about this decision be directed to Koch Media / Deep Silver, and not to the makers at 4A Games.”
“”The future release strategy of the Metro series rests with Koch Media / Deep Silver. Our decision to partner with Epic Games was made with the aim of investing in the future of the series and in our development partner, 4A Games. We have every intention of continuing this franchise, and the PC version will always be at the center of our plans.”
