Come along, because this news has a taste of a galaxy far, far away: in February 2019, Disney reinforced what Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment had already said, that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order would arrive at the end of that year. The confirmation came with the announcement of Triple Force Friday, a day of Star Wars product launches.
Triple Force Friday was set for October 4, 2019 and would bring together books, figures, toys, collectibles and home items tied to three projects of the saga: the film Star Wars: Episode IX, the live-action series The Mandalorian, which would premiere on Disney+, and Respawn’s game. Pay attention to the detail: October 4 was the date for the products, not for the game. Disney only spoke of a release for “Christmas 2019”.
Up to then, almost nothing of the game had been shown, so each confirmation was cause for celebration. Fallen Order was a single-player adventure, directed by Stig Asmussen, that would tell the story of Jedi padawan Cal Kestis across five planets, always accompanied by the droid BD-1, a cutie who later won over many people.
What came next
Fallen Order came out on November 15, 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The mix of metroidvania-style exploration with Dark Souls-inspired lightsaber combat pleased: Metacritic scores between 79 and 81. Sales passed 10 million units by March 2020, and the game had the fastest Star Wars digital launch in EA’s history in its first two weeks. On June 11, 2021 the PS5 and Xbox Series versions arrived, and the sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, came out in April 2023. My little gamer heart still wants a plush BD-1.
