Former Platinum employee says Scalebound (the brand) belongs to Microsoft

A former Platinum Games employee, now at EA, says a Scalebound revival on Switch is highly unlikely because Microsoft holds the rights to the game.

Recently there were rumors that Scalebound, a game that was being developed by Platinum Games in partnership with Microsoft (the project was canceled), would be resurrected by Nintendo and become a new Nintendo Switch exclusive. This week a former Platinum employee who now works at EA Games commented on the rumor; according to him it is not impossible for this to happen, but it is highly unlikely… he said:

“Damn. I don’t know. I don’t work there anymore and haven’t talked to anyone there about this, but I highly doubt that this is true,”

He also added that Microsoft holds the rights to the game… at least as of when he worked there.

“That and the hardware differences. Right now it makes more sense to just create a new game. Scalebound was not a beloved intellectual property. It never had the chance to become one.”

“I think I’m going to turn off Twitter until this rumor dies. I have people mentioning me in all kinds of stupidity. Don’t come to me with your stupid messages about trademark registrations, or arguments between Microsoft and Nintendo, or what you heard to be the truth about Scalebound.”

“I mean, the game literally blew me out, sent me to therapy, disappointed me, made me learn a lot, motivated me to try new things and new places; all kinds of positives and negatives. But what it didn’t do was give everyone on the internet any clue about what they are talking about.”
