It is no secret to anyone that Microsoft needs to improve its efforts regarding PC gaming; its store and PC services fall well short of the level reached on Xbox One… the Windows store even seems archaic compared to competitors like Steam, Origin and Uplay. Aware of these flaws, Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, confirmed that E3 2019 will show the start of the effort to turn Windows into a better platform for accessing services shared with Xbox. Spencer said:
“The first priority is to deliver a new games store experience taking into account all of our previous learning on PC. Delivering a great gaming experience to PC players is fundamentally important to the future of Xbox and of gaming at Microsoft.”
“As the creator of Windows, we have the responsibility to invest in new ways through which we can benefit the PC player and ensure they remain at the center of the experience.”
“While we are proud of our PC gaming heritage, we have made some mistakes along our journey. We know we have to move forward, informed by our past, with the unique desires, needs and challenges of the PC player at the center of the decisions we make.”
“I know I have talked a lot over time about what we want to deliver to the player on PC, but at E3 this year, and throughout 2019, you will start to see where we have been investing to deliver in the Store, services, Windows and great games. It is only the beginning.”
Recent rumors say Microsoft intends to turn Windows into a platform fully compatible with Xbox games, even making it possible to use game discs on PC.
