Sony and Microsoft announce partnership

Sony and Microsoft announce a partnership to explore cloud and artificial intelligence solutions for games and content streaming.

Sony and Microsoft together? It sounds like an April Fools’ Day story, right? Yes it does, but it is true! The partnership between the two aims to explore innovations in services, artificial intelligence and cloud solutions through Azure technology. On Sony’s side, Azure technology will be used in its streaming services to improve the way and the quality with which content is delivered, including better development platforms for content creators.

On Microsoft’s side, the technology of Sony’s advanced image sensors will be used in tune with Azure‘s artificial intelligence to improve cloud experiences.

Also about the partnership, Kenichiro Yoshida, Sony’s CEO, said:

“Sony is a creative entertainment company with a strong technology foundation,”

“We work closely with a variety of content creators who capture people’s imagination around the world and, through our top technology, we provide the tools to make their dreams and visions a reality. I believe our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute immensely to the advancement of our interactive content.”

Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, also commented on the partnership:

“Sony has always been a leader in entertainment and technology, and the collaboration announced today builds on that history of innovation. Our partnership brings the power of Azure and Azure AI to Sony to deliver new gaming and entertainment experiences to consumers.”
