Come along, this one is for those who dreamed of playing Halo on the computer: at the end of June 2019, the official Halo channel published a video with about 17 minutes of Halo: Reach gameplay running on PC, in 4K. The part shown is the Tip of the Spear mission from the campaign.
Halo: Reach was on its way to the Master Chief Collection, 343 Industries’ compilation that brings together the first six main games of the series, on both Xbox One and PC. And Reach’s arrival had a special meaning: it would be the first game in the collection to come out on the computer, paving the way for the other titles to arrive one by one afterward.
For those who don’t remember the story, here is some nice context: Reach was originally released in September 2010 on Xbox 360 and was the last Halo made by Bungie, the studio that created the series. It is a direct prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved and tells the fall of the planet Reach, in 2552, through the eyes of Noble Six, a supersoldier in the Noble Team squad. At launch, the game took in 200 million dollars in a single day, a franchise record at the time, and sold more than three million units in its first month in North America.
What came next
Halo: Reach came to PC and to the Xbox One version of the Master Chief Collection in December 2019. The other games in the collection were released on the computer over the following year, until November 2020, when the collection was complete with Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Reach and Halo 4. On PC, the collection has no split screen, but lets you play the campaign in online co-op with Steam and Xbox friends. A treat for those who waited so long.
