Gears Tactics marked the Gears series’ debut in a genre different from the original saga. For those who don’t know what it is, Gears Tactics is a real-time strategy game set in the Gears of War universe. It tells the story of Gabe Diaz (father of Gears 5 protagonist Kait Diaz) fighting the Locust Horde 12 years before the original Gears of War.
It was revealed this week that the game will run at 4K/60FPS on the Xbox Series X, with the option of 30FPS or 60FPS cinematics (the player decides). On the Xbox Series S, the game will run at 1440P/60FPS. On the Xbox One X players will be able to choose between 4K/30FPS or 1440P/60FPS. On the standard Xbox One the game will run at 1080P/30FPS.
Although the Xbox One X version also has the same 1440P/60FPS mode as the Xbox Series S, The Coalition’s technical director was emphatic that the Xbox Series S version is better than the Xbox One X version in that mode. He said: “It’s visually better — same resolution, same frame rate, but the CPU is much better on Series S and Series X, so we have a lot more capacity to draw more things. Even though the GPU is responsible for the drawing, we still have to take it off the CPU, and on Xbox One X you’ll see the visual quality is not as high as on Series S in performance mode.”
