Starfield is Bethesda’s newest IP. The game’s director, Todd Howard, gave an interview with more details about aspects of the upcoming space RPG. Here are the main points:
- The game is entirely single-player, with no multiplayer features
- The game will use procedural generation, but it will be different from, for example, No Man’s Sky, where everything is generated in real time. In Starfield’s case, procedural generation is being used during development, and afterward a human team reviews it to see whether everything works, and if it doesn’t, it’s touched up by hand (handcrafted)
- The game’s engine (the software used to develop the game) went through an overhaul in which rendering, animation, artificial intelligence, pathing, procedural generation and several other functions received very large revisions.
- Todd Howard didn’t want to give a date (not even an approximate one) for the game’s release, because the game may suffer delays and he doesn’t want to disappoint people with predictions that won’t come true. He says he plans to release teasers and trailers and will only announce the date when the game is close to release.
- The game will be available on Game Pass from day one
