Come with me and I will tell you what Ubisoft had in store for after the launch of Immortals Fenyx Rising. In mid-November 2020, a little over two weeks before release, the company published a trailer with the game’s post-launch content and season pass, until then a mystery.
For those who just arrived: Immortals Fenyx Rising is an open-world adventure from Ubisoft Quebec, the same team behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, inspired by Greek mythology. The game was announced at E3 2019 under a different name, Gods & Monsters. We control Fenyx, a mortal character who can be male or female and who has to save the gods of Olympus from the clutches of the monster Typhon, while Prometheus narrates everything to a rather grumpy Zeus. The game was set for December 3, 2020 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Stadia and PC.
According to the trailer description, the pass promised new heroes, a world inspired by Chinese mythology and a top-down adventure with brawler combat. Look at that lovely variety: three packs, each with a different way to play.
What came next
The three add-ons came out in early 2021: A New God on January 28, Myths of the Eastern Realm on March 25 and The Lost Gods on April 22.
- A New God (January 28, 2021): Fenyx faces the trials of the gods of Olympus to earn a place in the Pantheon’s circle.
- Myths of the Eastern Realm (March 25, 2021): made by Ubisoft Chengdu, it features the heroine Ku, who helps the goddess Nüwa restore balance between Heaven and Earth, in a world inspired by Chinese myths.
- The Lost Gods (April 22, 2021): with a top-down view and brawler-style combat, it introduces Ash, a new heroine seeking to reunite gods such as Poseidon and Hades.
The game received “generally favorable” reviews, according to Metacritic, and my little gamer heart holds a soft spot for the humor of the Zeus and Prometheus duo.
