Zangado’s YouTube channel hacked and all its content removed

Hackers took over YouTuber Zangado’s channel and wiped its content. See what is known about the attack and the method used to hijack accounts.

Updated 21:30

Zangado’s channel has just disappeared from YouTube. In place of the YouTuber’s ID, the name of Cathie Wood appears, who, according to her Twitter, is CEO of Arkinvest. We do not yet know what involvement the CEO has in the event, or even whether there is any involvement beyond the use of her name.

Edit: YouTuber Fiaspo explained, on his Twitter, one of the methods used to hack someone else’s account. Basically, the hacker creates a website with a fake game and poses as a game developer, promising an amount of money for a video or review of their game. Once the person runs the file sent via link (usually from Google Drive), an executable runs that pulls the victim’s entire login history and also clones the 2FA token (Two Factor Authentication).

All the channel’s videos have been removed (or made private). At the moment the only active video is a Live promising double the amount back if the person donates Bitcoin.

We will report more as the situation develops

Edit 21:30 : the channel name was changed to Ethereum Foundation and the name Zangado was removed from the address bar
