SavePoint spoke with the creator of Palimpsest: Where Magic Remembers, who goes by SmallIndieDev (@SmallIndieDev_). He’s Brazilian, has been making games for three years and has worked on Palimpsest for over a year.
Magic as storytelling
The core idea is using magic as a way to tell the story: spells and the world hold memories for the player to uncover. The game has multiple endings.
The Kin
The player is always joined by a Kin, a companion creature. Some fly, some can be ridden, and you can swap Kin along the way. Traversal is a key part of the experience.
Inspirations and tools
The dev cites Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Hollow Knight as inspirations. The game is built in Godot, with models made in Blender. He says the biggest challenge so far is keeping the scope of such an ambitious project under control with a tiny team.
When it’s coming
- Demo: planned for Q1 2027
- Release: planned for Q2–Q3 2027
- Consoles: ports are being negotiated
A message to players
The dev was clear: supporting Brazilian developers matters. His most direct ask is simple: wishlist Palimpsest on Steam, which helps an indie game’s visibility a lot before launch.
