EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series prepares for the CONMEBOL eLibertadores tournament

EA Sports and CONMEBOL announce the eLibertadores, a FIFA 21 tournament that expands the FIFA 21 Global Series to South America.

EA SPORTS and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) are proud to announce the long-awaited CONMEBOL eLibertadores, which expands the EA SPORTS™ FIFA 21 Global Series and offers players and fans in South America a unique way to connect with the CONMEBOL Libertadores through electronic sports competition. South America’s biggest club tournament, the CONMEBOL Libertadores, is also available in EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Ultimate Team.

The CONMEBOL eLibertadores tournament is one of the main EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series events and consists of three phases running from December 2020 to March 2021. The event starts on January 16 and 17 with EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Ultimate Team on Xbox One or Playstation 4. The best players will advance to the final phases and continue on the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2021. The CONMEBOL eLibertadores Grand Final will feature the eight best competitors on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One vying for the chance to win three direct spots in the South American qualifiers per platform and a prize of USD 100,000.00. For the first time, the CONMEBOL eLibertadores will connect South American football fans and FIFA players with their favorite footballers and teams through an intense and entertaining electronic sports competition, helping increase the number of esports followers in the region and enrich fans’ football experience.

“As a leading organization, CONMEBOL seeks to bring the experience of the best football in the world to all audiences and in all modalities. The eLibertadores is a unique opportunity for players, mainly in South America but also around the world, to enjoy a front-row seat at one of the most exciting esports events in the world,” said Juan Emilio Roa, Commercial and Marketing Director of CONMEBOL.

The CONMEBOL eLibertadores is the latest addition to the EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series, a global competition spanning six regions (Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, East Asia, West Asia and South Africa). The CONMEBOL eLibertadores welcomes players from 10 countries whose associations are part of CONMEBOL (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela).

“With the addition of the CONMEBOL eLibertadores to the FIFA 21 Global Series, we are creating even more opportunities for our players to become champions,” said Brent Koning, EA SPORTS FIFA representative. “Through the eLibertadores we can build a rich history of the best South American football, offering new ways for its passionate fan base to take part in football culture and support their favorite teams.”

About CONMEBOL

Founded in 1916, the South American Football Confederation – CONMEBOL – is the governing body of South American football and the oldest continental football confederation in the world. CONMEBOL, made up of ten member associations (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela), is responsible for the organization and administration of the main international South American football tournaments, including the CONMEBOL Copa América, the CONMEBOL Libertadores, the CONMEBOL Sudamericana and the CONMEBOL Recopa, among others.

Since 2016, CONMEBOL has undergone a series of structural reforms to modernize its administration and operations, increase the global competitiveness of its exclusive tournaments and strengthen its promotion of football development through greater revenue and investment.

As part of this strategy, over the last two years CONMEBOL’s club competitions have been enhanced through a new format design and the adoption of standards aimed at raising the quality of the tournaments from a competitive, sporting and commercial standpoint. Thanks to the recently adopted improvements, CONMEBOL’s tournaments last year reached record numbers in digital engagement, stadium attendance and sales.
