Latest GeForce Game Ready Driver brings Vulkan Ray Tracing support and updates the Quake II RTX demo

The latest GeForce Game Ready Driver adds Ray Tracing support for the Vulkan API and updates Quake II RTX to new industry standards, with a built-in benchmark.

Bringing Ray Tracing to Vulkan was a multi-year effort by many companies, in which NVIDIA took an active leadership position at every stage of its evolution. The company was elected to chair the Vulkan Ray Tracing subgroup at Khronos, contributed to the design of the Khronos extension and shipped drivers for the provisional version of the Vulkan Ray Tracing extension to get feedback from the developer group. Now, NVIDIA is the first to adopt these extensions in a game.

Quake II RTX: Ray Tracing for everyone!

Vulkan Ray Tracing is no longer just for GeForce RTX owners. With its new update, Quake II RTX becomes the first game to support the Vulkan Ray Tracing extensions on any compatible GPU, and it no longer needs vendor-specific extensions.

Quake II RTX was the world’s first fully ray-traced game, a light-ray tracing technique that unifies all lighting effects, such as shadows, reflections, refractions and more, into a single algorithm. The result is a stunning new look for one of the world’s most popular games, originally released in 1997.

Download the new Game Ready Driver and try Vulkan Ray Tracing!

Quake II RTX also received a built-in benchmark so you can see how different GPUs perform with Ray Tracing – the world’s first benchmark for Vulkan Ray Tracing.

To see the benchmark in action, download the latest Game Ready Driver and download Quake II RTX on Steam. The first three levels are free, and the entire game gets the Ray Tracing treatment, if available.
