The Medium developer explains why the game is so demanding on PC

Bloober Team explains why The Medium is so demanding on PC: the psychological horror game renders two worlds at once. See the requirements.

The Medium launches this week, on the 28th to be exact. The game seeks to emulate the whole atmosphere of the horror games that appeared in the early 2000s, with fixed cameras on the settings, puzzles and a focus on narrative and the atmosphere of the world created. The game will let the player see the human world and the spirit world at the same time on several occasions.

According to the developers this is the main reason the game requires a rather robust PC configuration. They explained:

“You know, we’re rendering two worlds at the same time, and if people want to render two worlds with HDR plus ray tracing, that requires really powerful hardware. We don’t want to put the specs on the internet and say “yes, it’ll run fine on your PC” if that isn’t true. Our game flows between worlds, sometimes you’re in just one world, sometimes in two at the same time. If you start the game and at the beginning you only have one world, you’ll get (eventually) to a situation where the game will render two worlds, you know the frames will drop and of course that’s not good. We have to put the specs for the most power-demanding situation and that is why the requirements are high.”

The Medium will launch for Xbox Series S|X and PC this Thursday (January 28). Excited?
