A little gift for those who like to hand out beatings! On May 6, 2025, Maximum Entertainment and Secret Base released two new playable characters in Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, in a free DLC. It is the first of several planned for this year, with six more fighters later.
Who has arrived
Jeff was a childhood rival of the Lee brothers and trained Sōsetsuken with them, but envy spoke louder. He blended Karate with Sōsetsuken and created a dangerous, unpredictable style.
Abore is a huge, stoic former soldier who fights with brute strength and total calm. So strong and resilient that the question remains: is he a man, or something more?
In the game, Billy and Jimmy Lee take on crime in New York, and you can pick up to two characters to form a duo, with roguelite progression and upgrades. It is available on PC, Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4. Official site: DoubleDragonGaiden.com.
Our take
Free content in a retro beat ‘em up is pure affection for the community. Jeff has that dramatic rival energy I love, and the mysterious Abore has already won my little heart.
