Toukana Interactive announced that Dorfromantik, the relaxing puzzle game about building rural landscapes tile by tile, is coming to PlayStation, Xbox and mobile. Publishing of the new versions goes to Germany’s Headup Games, which also handles the PlayStation and Xbox ports in-house; the mobile version is in the hands of Austrian studio ClockStone, from Innsbruck, known for the Bridge Constructor series.

What changes on each platform

On consoles, the idea is to keep the original experience. On mobile, the interface is being reimagined for touchscreens and handheld play, without losing the game’s calm mood. Dorfromantik has been on Nintendo Switch since 2022, the year it also became a board game with Pegasus Spiele. Toukana remains the owner of the brand and follows the ports as a consultant, while working on Star Birds, a space factory-building game made with the animation studio kurzgesagt.

More is coming: a new edition of the board game with Pegasus Spiele and a soundtrack vinyl with Black Screen Records. Release dates for the new versions have not been announced yet.

Our take

A nice detail: Dorfromantik has always been a game of small gestures, rotating a tile, fitting in a river, closing a forest. What stands out is the decision to redesign the interface for touch instead of just shrinking the PC screen; that is exactly where a mobile port usually succeeds or fails.

Indies and pixel art

Capitão Pixel swears he has a pilot’s license, but the only thing he really flies is the Steam Next Fest demo list. He covers indies, pixel art and art direction, and can write three paragraphs about a jump animation. He has never been seen without his captain’s cap, not even in photos (which, let’s be honest, are all drawn).
